New Jersey Earthquake Rattles the East Coast
On Friday, a 4.8 magnitude earthquake in NJ rattled the east coast. It was felt as north as Maine and as south as Baltimore. It originated in near Whitehouse Station, NJ. It was the largest earthquake in NJ since 1973. No significant damage occurred. Flights at Newark Liberty and JFK in Queens were delayed for runaway checks. One flight bound for Newark Liberty stopped in Harrisburg until Newark inspections were over. Amtrak slowed down it's train speed on Friday. New York subways were inspected and were in good condition. New York's mayor said "New Yorkers should go about their normal day." On Friday evening, an aftershock of a 3.8 magnitude occurred. More aftershocks kept occurring. The earthquakes were most likely felt because of a major fault line called the "Ramapo Fault", not a plate boundary like many earthquakes. That's all the information we have for now, and thanks for reading.
